Loneliness

Loneliness is a universal problem. I counsel many children, teenagers and adults who experience consistent loneliness. I do believe devices and technology is a major culprit but I that's not always the case.

Loneliness looks different for everyone. Loneliness impacts stay at home Mums or Dads, divorcees, widows, popular people, religious people, doctors, teachers, new students, refugees, people who have relocated, extroverts, introverts, empty-nesters, people going through a life changing or traumatic event, celebrities, grievers, the sibling of a high needs child, carers, and people who just haven’t found their people for whatever reason, and more.

Loneliness often accompanies many secondary emotions like anger, fear, guilt, sadness, shame, regret, rejection, forgotten, bored, unworthy, lost, etc.

Prolonged loneliness can cause depression, anxiety, or other serious mental health issues. Maladaptive coping techniques such as substance abuse, lack of exercise, isolating others, pornography, self-harm, food restriction, overeating, using too much technology, school refusal, etc. become self destructive habits that can be difficult to escape. Before this happens, it’s essential to speak with a trained counsellor.

At Back to Basics Counselling & Consulting, I offer individual counselling sessions for loneliness, depression, anxiety, and other issues that seem to pause the joys of life.

I see clients from my Burleigh Heads office in the Gold Coast. I also offer Telehealth sessions. Contact 0466 193 355 to book your first appointment.
